The core value we discuss this week in the Family Meeting series is “Followers of Jesus help others follow Jesus.”
As a reminder, the message at the heart of Family Meeting series is that “great families establish core values, pursue common vision and help each other maintain healthy direction.”
The book of Acts just keeps getting more amazing. Chapter 8 is absolutely full of amazing miracles. What a great read… evil spirits called out of people, the lame healed, and more and more.
Then in the middle of Chapter 8 we have this pretty boring miracle happen. A believer named Philip is told by the Holy Spirit to “go stand over there by that chariot.” OK… so maybe that miracle is kind of boring. Or is it?
From that move, a simple conversation is started with an influential African, who is subsequently saved… not by a miracle but by the fact that Philip can read… who subsequently heads home and spreads this new Christianity to an entirely new continent. Talk about playing a small role with big consequences.
Step 1 of preparing for this Sunday nights discussion is… read Acts Chapter 8. Do it. You won’t be sorry.
Step 2 is to arrive at 5:00 pm at the Davis’ house to discuss these questions:
- Has anyone ever played a significant role in your life by just showing up?
- Have you ever had a moment where you think you may have called to “just go over and stand there?”
- Lets talk about your favorite ways to “help other followers of Christ.”
Thank you Lord for this amazing story captured by Luke in Acts. Now I see how and why I got to be sitting in a row at 777 North Walnut Creek Drive every Saturday night or Sunday morning! If Phillip can spread your Word to Africa by translating a sentence… maybe you can use me!
