What is Abundance Thinking?
2 Corinthians 9:8New International Version (NIV)
8 And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work.
I’ve just finished a series of business meetings to start the 2017 year. January is the month organizations and Leaders take time to set vision, mission, and goals for the up coming year. In December we look backward and in mid-to-late January we tend to look forward.
One observation that kept coming up the last couple of weeks is the powerful effect of abundant thinking vs. “I” thinking. “I” thinkers make two huge mistakes.
- “I” thinkers grossly underestimate the contribution others had on their success.
- Even more deadly is that “I” thinkers believe every one else is either competition or will fail them.
Maybe we have all done this by attacking the plumber for his diagnosis or worse, his cost estimate? At your work maybe you have followed up a thought you share with your team by ” I have done this before and that idea won’t work.” Non-abundant thinking is subtle but it can kill momentum and others buy-in instantly.
So what is the opposite? What is abundant thinking? Abundance is the belief that there is more good out there for and in everyone else. Abundant thinking does not belief in a limited amount of goodness, credit, or even money. Abundant Thinkers want to be on the winning team more they want to be an All-Pro on a loosing team.
Here is the trick… abundance is not yours to give or take away. God has already promise a life for the good ; an abundant life for all those who believe.
When you don’t expect, assume, and wish the best for everyone; you are effectvily stealing joy and lowering the common denominator.
Question of the week: Are you an abundant thinker?
